. Two Steps Behind .
Wee.
I'm tired. Mentaly and Physically.
Things have been going great. *knock wood*
I'm gettin' real excited for Indian Culture Night. Met Fudge in TCSJ (main Campus) and she saw some of our performances for that night. Mass Comm rocks.
People have these really shallow perceptions towards the Mass Communication industry (don't we all love stereotyping?) ...
"Mass Comm wont take you far..",
"Mass Comm is for lazy farts who didn't do well in school, lah!"
"Mass Comm? ohh...Takde maths yehhh...sure kluar tv."
"Mass Comm? It ain't a professional job!"
Hmm.
As a communication student, i will take those statements with a pinch of salt.
In defence to the first statement, it is of course lah untrue. Duh. Communicators are totally in demand at this day and age. We communicate every single minute...be it verbally or non-verbally. Formally or informally. So, studying communications is almost like studying pscychology in a way...its inter-related in so many ways. Its a study of how to communicate effectively. Mass communicators have the power to change mindsets, and create a sub-culture within another culture! Take a look at the kids these days... They're called the Mtv generation. That's how powerful the media can be, thanks to mass commers. Yeah, sure its not a positive outcome, but my point is, we HAVE the power to change that. Advertisers are getting paid big bucks for their ideas. Their power to persuade the mass is simply amazing. How can you not go anywhere with that capability? you're in fuckin demand!
My defence for the second statement is... Kepala Hotak, kau for lazy farts! You gotta be passionate about anything you want to do. There's no two way about it. The work load for this field is torturous! Plus , theres this thing called "datelines". And what about events which most PR students have to organize?(They're being graded mind you). The compulsary subjects for most communications courses are not easy....at all. you gotta have the passion to learn it. Not just for the sake of memorising all the communication reasearch methods. I didn't have the passion...and boy, was it difficult for me.
Third defence.
yes, sure no Maths...but this field is not the kind of field where there are rules of doing things. Its up to you to take up the challenge. Example, no one is gonna arrest you for choosing the "right" words to describe or persuade your customers. Like, how by addressing your consiuents being "full-figured" is only a nicer way of saying you're being fat.
Another thing, just because your doing masscomm doesn't mean you gotta be on tv. There are also other forms of media...the newspaper, Billboards, supplementary media, new media...what do they all have in common? Obviously not being on tv, right....Yeaaah, communicating to the fuckin' mass!
Fourth? MassComm tak professional?! Pengsan aku.
Communicators also work in Big Asses companies, as corporate communicators, Public relations and such. Corporate Communicators are included in the higher management in an organization. Not only that, Journalists are also a profesional job! I mean, who brings you news? The media plays the role of a watchdog for the society! How can these jobs be unimportant?
Many negelect the fact that communicators are important in so many ways. They're everywhere! Its just the matter of the roles they play..big or small. Just like, Architects. If we don't have 'em, who's gonna design our buildings? Or Graphic Designers...they think out of the box just to grasp the attention!
Studying communications also teaches me how to except others' weaknesses...mostly behavioral. But it pisses me off when sometimes other communication students fail to apply their knowledge in real life. Hah. Me included la.
Oh well.
Obviously i've got nothing else to write about, and my fingers were intchy.
I just thought it would be nice for me to bitch about something...hehe.
