"What you mean you don't eat meat? It's okay, i make LAMB!"
"Too Many Cooks spoil the broth..."
Sigh. Cliches, cliches. Over the last weekend, my family and i headed down south to the state of Malacca, the historical city. Except... we weren't in Malacca Town. Just in A' Famosa Resort. I dunno why the call it a resort. It sucks, really.
Anyway...
What was supposed to be a 2 Family barbecue affair became to be a 3 family thing...then it became a 4 family jamboree. I swear it was a Jamboree. Tak percaya?
On Saturday, Pak Teh brought a whole lamb for the barbecue! It was a male lamb, so tiny that it could fit a small cooler box! That afternoon, the parents went out to play golf, leaving only me, and another cousin to prepare for the great feast. Oh, and Mak Teh was there to help us through. All the other younger cousins helped too.
What we had to do was, to stick the metal rod, which acts as the giant skewer to roast the lamb over the fire, through the lamb's butt (literally from the hole), till the neck. It was, trully, an unforgettable experience. It was disturbing, in the beginning...but Oh well, anything for a good piece of lamb!
I'm telling you... we learnt all the anatomy of a baby lamb. The dick got cut off...so we could see like, a truncated piece of thick vein. HAHAHA. The Trakea and stuff. But the internal organs were clean...we didn't see those. Thank god.
Since the folks were out in the sun hitting some golf balls, i had to run around getting things done. By the time we got the lamb up and burning at 4pm, i was sweating buckets. More folks arrived to uh..help out. They were more excited with the lamb, than actually helping with the other things. I don't blame them. Hahaha. It really is, quite exciting.
I haven't sat down since 3 pm that evening till 9pm that night. I'm not joking. My legs felt like jelly. The probably were like jelly by 10pm. Earlier in the morning, i splashed in the pool from 9 am to...uh...2pm. by the time i got out of the shower, i noticed that my arms were the colours of dark chocolate and white chocolate. My cheeks burned! Dah la tu, I had to start the fire to roast the bloody lamb! Lagi merah!!
Oh so...so coming back to the whole "cooks spoil broth thing"...By the time the folks came back from golfing, they all had their own ideas on how to cook what and where. I was preparing the garlic bread inside...using the oven. But the other folks suruh bawak outside...so that they can bake it outside. I don't mind, really. But. hey...you do your thang, i'll do mine. Dah la no one helped me butter the french loaves. Try 5 stinkin' french loaves. Hahah, by the time i got to the last loaf, the bread looked like i tore them instead of cutting them.
Systems clashed a little, but in the end we all had a great time eating and laughing and talking and joking.
This doesn't happen often. So might as well just cherish the moments. Families are kinda difficult to get along with, but wether you like it or not, you just gotta get along. Even if any of your family members aren't nice to you in one way or another...you just gotta chill, and leave them alone. It's really their problem : )
Then, the cousins swam at 10 pm, and i decided not to although it looked fun! I couldn't stand up anymore. So i took a hot shower, watched some telly in my parents' room, and fell asleep on the bed. They woke me up at midnight to sleep outside with the rest of the family.
Guess what they did? They put up a cinema projector and faced it to the wall for a midnight movie! Hahaha. So cute. It sure was better than Starlight Cinema, i tell ya! Seniman Bujang Lapok was the movie for the night/morning.
Great movie. My All time fav movie. It sounds corny, but believe it or not, that movie has SO many lessons to be learnt from. The movie is packed with "pedoman" or messages to be passed on to their Malay audience in the 60s. And it's still applicable to us today. The humour...ah, original and classic.
I will post some pics as soon as i download them on to the computer, soon.
Till next time!
P/s: I'm gonna ramble about the movie soon! Hehehe.
