On last sarurday a bunch of the closest people i and my family knew came to my house for a small raya do. Who knew a "small" raya do would take up a lot of energy in the process of eecuting the plan.

Day 1 ( a day before the do)
Mom and i decided to do a little damage control on our wall downstairs. We had to sandpaper the wall to smoothen the surface then painted it. So we did. We finished at about 7.30-ish and then we did our prayers then we had our dinner. That night i got so excited about dyeing my hair. The original plan was to have Aida A and Liyana to do it for me...But thanks to my itchy fingers, i now have an alienated blob of copper coloured hair at the back of my head. Yeah, it's uneven. We even managed to whip up two whole chocolate cakes.

Day 2 ( The day of the do)
My family and i woke up a little early in the morning. Well actually i woke up at 9. Mom and dad woke up a little bit more earlier to buy the freshest chickens, freshest herbs, freshest whatever else we needed to for the dishes. So by 10, I had to start chopping the ingredients...Tofu, Tempe, carrots, chives, and what not. There were a lot of things that needed to be diced, sliced, choped, and what have you. By 2 pm, my bached had ached due to my bad posture. My butt was numb for sitting for hours at the same spot. I got myself a shower after my chores were done, and by 4.30 pm the first guests started to arrive. By the way, we cooked up Lontong, Soto, Gado- gado...The rendang we got from our neighbour. What nice people they are. hahaha.

The evening session were my mom's and dad's close friends session to makan and criticize the government, the aviation industry and laugh about silly things. It was my shift to take care of washing the dishes, making sure there were enough spoons, forks and glasses, drinks and food refills. Well, it was supposed to be me and my sister...but as usual, i'd be the one doing the job and she'll be the little princess asking me to do things "right". Garr. Dont get me wrong... i do still love her....but sometimes i just feel like killing her. Old people are just naturally nosy. It'd be a sin to NOT know about your college, which college, which course, boyfriends, friends, weight....Man.

The Night session was meant for my sister's and my closest friends. Now it was my parents' turn to wash the dishes, and yada yada yada. Fisrt guess was of course, Dee. Too bad she was sick that night. The poor woman couldn't taste anything even the rendang which had promised a burst of flavour! Then the others from college came around the same time...Macam dah plan. One reach, all oso reach same time. Shadz came with Hanzy...and what a coincidence, their dad grew up in brickfields...like my dad. Well we wouldn't have known if my dad and mom hadn't lepaked with them. Well, Dwi and kaling seranaded us with their piano power...and my sister and her friends went ga-ga over him. AHHA. hilarous. Cute, but hilarious. Not to mention disturbing. We (college mates) laughed the night away like mad people...deciding whether Brazil is in Peru or Brazil is in Europe. I wonder what goes on in their brains. After generous rounds of refilling their plates, it was time for their departure. everybody left at once...so it was like an eerie silence after that. Haha. No it wasn't a compliment to any of u guys.

Day 3 (Post raya do)
Technically its the 3rd day la. Super early 3rd day. My family and i cleaned up the house until about 12.30 am. My parents were super exhausted, that they just fell asleep on the floor of the living room. My sister and i slept in their room so that we could watch tv before we doze off. The next morning, i woke up at 9. I was surprised i could even wake up that early after what i did the night before. Anyway...we continued cleaning up the house that afternoon. right up till that evening. Sigh. Finally everything's clean again.

Here are some pictures of that night.

Funny.

Counter Attack
by Mary Roach

Primed, sealed, luminiser, cleansed and taken for a ride

It is my personal belief that the people who install the mirrors and lighting in department stores are direct chatoos with the cosmetic companies. All down the rows of rooms, you hear sad moans and horrified gasps of women confronted with their own fluorescent-lit reflections. My eye bags, I realised the other day while shopping with my friend Wendy, had ceased to be an anatomical feature and were approaching the status of an actual luggage. “You can almost see the little handles,” I wailed. Wendy was in the next room trying on a jacket. “My skin is green,” she was saying. I assured Wendy it was light reflecting off the jacket. “But the jacket is brown,” she said.

We went directly from there to the makeup department, where a facialist determined that we needed help; a whole new approach. As with all major renovations, this one was to begin with foundation. I told the salesgirl I don’t like foundation because it sinks into my skin into my wrinkles and makes them look deeper.

“That’s because you’re not a primer,” said the girl. Her name was Elaine. Her company actually sells a product called Face Primer. “You wouldn’t paint a room without putting on primer first, would you?”

“Of course not,” I said because my husband was not around to expose me as a liar.

In keeping with the home repair theme, this brand of make up was to be put on with brushes. Their salesgirl, who had got me into the chair, was applying primer with such brush. She suggested buying their four-pack of specialised make up brushes, which came in a pink leatherette case. “It is an investment,” she said. Did that mean that over time the brushes would become more valuable, and one day I could cash them in and retire? It did not. It meant they were expensive. The foundation brush alone cost $42.

“What is it, mink?” I asked. I was trying to be funny, but the line landed far shy of its mark, for the brush was in fact, Siberian blue squirrel. “I’ve never seen a blue squirrel,” Wendy commented.

“Now you know why,” I said. I pictured entry-level makeup company flacks, sent out to stalk the northern forests with pallet guns.

“Maybe they just trim their little tails and let them go,” Wendy said charitably.

Elaine said to my brush portfolio would last to 12 to15 years if I took care of the bristles. This entailed using the company’s Brush Bath and Brush Cleanser. “You want to treat them like your own hair,” Elaine said. She was wrong. I wanted to treat them like squirrels treat their own hair. Shouldn’t that be enough?

Elaine wasn’t listening. She had moved on. She was applying a $35 skin luminiser which she said, “minimises fine lines.” For instance, the fine line between luminous skin and highway robbery.

“That’s so pretty on you,” said Elaine. Notice the structure of the sentence. It is the makeup that’s pretty, not me. Wendy told me that’s I looked fabulous. She handed me a mirror. I had t admit that I looked, if not fabulous, a bit less washed out.

I considered buying it all: foundation, makeup, makeup remover, primer, sealant, luminiser, cleanser, moisturizer, brushes, brush bath, brush cleanser, brush masseuse, brush finishing school…Instead, I went down the street to the hardware store and bought some 25-watt bulbs.

Friends

I guess the thing about having real friends is that they don't lie to you even though the facts may sound vile. Well, one friend of mine actually had the courage to tell me what my weaknesses are. At first I felt like whatever said shouldn't matter to me. Thats coz i think my oppinions are mine.

I feel that, whatever oppinions of mine should not necessarily apply to them...its up to them if they wanna accept my poopinions. I still think so. But i guess its about time I learn how to let things be and just leave people with their own oppinions. I don't have to force people to agree with my thoughts and views. Its not like i force people to agree with me... but i subconsciously do it because i have my own logic to it. That's the thing...my "logic" may not be logical to some...or most people. Hoho.

Whatever it is, I'm super glad she brought the topic up coz i now know more of my own flaws and improve me self. She told abt right in my face. It wasn't easy to accept it... but i took it with a pinch of salt. So thanks, woman.

Oh and she also said i love to criticize people. HAHA. Man, no denying that la. Obviously she hasn't hang out with my classmates often enough. I kinda realised how much i really criticize people...almost like, once in every few minutes. Guilty. Haih. Yet another flaw discovered.

hehe. Now to learn how to just shut up.

HAHAHA.
Ho Ho Ho!
Merry Christmas!

Hehe, i know its not even December yet, but shopping malls have put up trees and twinkle lights have been lit up. So i'm kinda already in the carols singing mood.

What a hilarious + Unlucky + Tiring + Sakit Hati day today.

Well, Really, it started off quite well today. Woke up in time...got a ride from dee...got to have breakfast...class went fine. But it was at about 11.20 am when fate wanted me to have a refreshing splash of water on my head and clothes at the mamak.

Okay, so you know how the clip the sides of the umbrellas together so that it won't drip inbetween the gaps? Well yes, it had a gap at the umbrella at our table...just above my head. It was starting to drizzle, when i said " Oh, there's a hole there...lemme just clip it...". And SPLASH came the water onto my face and hair and shirt. All i could do was just freeze in horror+ amusement + shock! The people at my table laughed like MAD. I mean. Super loud. Wait la you, Kaling. Laugh so loud. I laughed along coz at that particular moment i thougt it was hilarious too!

Fine. So i got over it, had my lunch...but to my horror, i had stained my jeans. Great. Now it's not funny. We were gonna have 2 hours of econs. Bloody poo. And so i cleaned my self up and went for class. The the lecturer was pissing me off when he said he wanted to let us go early but took a bloody long time to figure out what the answer was for the the excercize he gave us. Kaling had noticed how annoyed i was. I had cramps. So it really wasn't funny at all.

So then he let us off 1/2 an hour earlier... went back home and changed into a pair of clean pants. Waited for my dearest sister to get ready to follow us to parade. Liyana watched Oprah about Faith Hill while i played with my kitties.

So then we went off to Parade planning to get Liyana's gymming pants. Its super pink. Nice lah. Went makan at Nando's. Nando is the founder's name. I want gymming pants too.

Tomorrow school will start again.

I can't decide whether i'm excited or not for it. All my brain power is focused on my aching arm. The walls we painted today required more energy than i thought i it needed.

Now the walls to our staircase is just a few shades lighter than the bright citrus yellow. Blinding bright under the white light saver ray. I think its a nocturnal colour. It looks way brighter at night than it is during the day...with all the natural lighting. weird. During the day, the yellow seem so warm, and soft. But whetever. All i know is, my arm hurts like mad.

Blink Blink Blink.

Yes, so i have indeed eaten way too much during my stay in kampung and singapore. I got sick last night with a slight temperature, sneezing and headaches. Hehe. Maybe it was all the dust around the house there. Since we rarely go back to the house there, the time in between lets the dust settles on the couch, on the bed...everywhere.

I did have my lemang and everything that goes with it. I'm content.

Duit raya...was...okay. But definately not enough. All my Sing Dollars collected, i spent it on a pair of shoes, and a clutch bag. My dad didn't like that. I'm not a spend thrift kinda person. Bad, bad, bad.

I realised something today. If i bitch about someone, i must be able to accept the fact that people may bitch about me back. And that i shouldn't complain or be mad abt it. Afterall they too, have the right to kutuk me back. Hehe. Oh well. It's kinda funny how things go round.

The soothing chants of Takbir Raya fills the air tonight.
Chanting along makes me feel calm and serene.
